Students prepare for field trip - Jacksonville News

Kitty Stone Elementary's kindergarten classes will soon be going on a field trip to the Birmingham Children's Theater to see "The Little Engine That Could." So, to help prepare the students for the trip, the school brought in "Two Cool, Cute, Courtesy Conductors."

Millie Chastain, director of the Protocol School of Alabama, and colleague Jenny Howell was on hand to remind students to watch their manners when going to a play and to a restaurant afterward. At the end of the program, each student received a "courtesy coin" to remind them of the magic words "please and thank you" and "excuse me." They reminded students to talk in low voices, to avoid taking photographs during the play and not to tap on the chair in front of them.

At the end of the lesson on manners, all of the students formed a train line and chanted "I think I can, I think I can," while answering questions of good concert manners. After earning their coins, they enjoyed refreshments while practicing their manners.

The Protocol School will be coming back throughout the year to teach good manners, especially during National Etiquette Week in May. Molley Phillips' class at Kitty Stone will utilize the theme from the Beach Boys' song, "Wouldn't It Be Nice?"
